And when night falls, Le Mermoz morphs into a wine cellar serving delicious small plates. Landes yellow chicken is crispy-skinned and nestled in fromage blanc and tahini, and dessert was a refreshing orange, date and almond salad with Earl Grey cream. The cockles are just cooked and keep all their flavour – and the meal follows in much the same creative vein. Pan-fried cockles came with a powerful sauce vierge with candied lemon, fresh coriander and kasha (grilled buckwheat seed, the ingredient du moment for many Parisian chefs). From a kitchen at the back of a sparse, simple dining room, the duo send out balanced neo-bistro style dishes with oriental flavour, each more surprising than the last. At the helm at Le Mermoz is Manon Fleury, a young and already incredibly experienced chef ( Astrance and Semilla are both on her CV), with sous-chef Johann Barichasse ( Yard, Mokonuts). I had tummy aches and a garlic taste in my mouth until the next day.ĭon’t believe ratings in Paris because apparently they don’t have good taste in food.Escaping the restaurant-saturated Eastern area of Paris and putting down roots in the rather sleepy 8th arrondissement is a brave – but wise move. And let’s not forget his awkward laugh that sounds like an “evil” laugh which can be heard every 10 mns. On top of that, you’re trying to have a conversation with your partner and the chef keeps listening and answers back. It is the first time in my life that I wasn’t actually able to eat food i ordered in a restaurant. The only thing that we ate was the miso soup but even the mushroom in it were bad quality. The rice had no taste and the vegetables came from the kitchen and weren’t cooked by the chef: they literally tasted like a pot of salt. Ouvert du lundi au samedi en service continu (10h à minuit) c’est le spot qu’il manquait au quartier pour croquer un morceau d’Italie tout au long de la journée. We ordered the shrimps which were inedible: before being cooked they didn’t looked that fresh and amount of butter and garlic that the chef puts in everything is sickening. Seeing the remaining oil of the foie gras being cleaned with a dirty cloth that will be reused the whole cooking time, turned my stomach. He was cooking foie gras on the table which had an awful smell and foie gras is something that isn’t appealing to everyone. The waitress sits us down at one table where a couple had already started to eat and the chef was continuing to cook. I wanted to go to a teppanyaki and this restaurant was one of the top 5 choices due to its high rating. I don’t usually put bad reviews like this but for this place it is a necessity.
